Global brand Value by Interbrand's Most Valuable Brand came out with Brand Value for a name. Google valued at USD26billion, Apple at USD13.7billion. The 'valuation' of a brand considers three categories; financial analysis (about current and its projected future earning attributed by the brand), brand analysis(how brand influences purchases) , and brand strength (how brand ensures loyalty). The latter two categories are rather hard to measure, which explains why The Edge did not bother to elaborate of this.
Now compare the value of Google with its revenue, Google revenue is around USD22billion, and total asset of USD25billion. Apple has USD36bil and USD54 billion respectively. I am not saying it should correlate.
Check out Malaysia valuation, Public Bank's value is RM6.6billion. (revenue: RM10billion, totak asset: RM196bilion, 2nd rank Maybank(RM5.9billion) Revenue is RM17.6 billion while asset is RM310billion.
